Christopher K.P. Brown Upcoming Performance Dates
Around this time last year, while doing a feature performance in Atlanta I told the crowd that that would be the last time I’d be performing for about a year. I told them how I was going to spend the next year working on idea I had in mind. The idea was Poetry247.com.
I actually did stop performing and I actually did put my efforts toward that idea. The response has been great so far as Poetry247 is concerned. It’s been time w…ell spent so far. However, I’m a poet at the end of the day and right now I really miss the stage.
Therefore, I’ve set up about 12 features over the next two months (hoping to add more). I hope you can make it out. Would be great to see some familiar faces AND some new ones as well. The schedule is below. Will see you soon. Peace.

BIO
A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in August of 2000, Christopher K.P. Brown self-published his own collection of poems, Content, and sold over 200 copies at $20 a piece within a few months. He was only 16 years old. Since then he’s written and self-published two more books of poetry, four chapbooks, and recorded four spoken word albums, POETRY: a hip hop album being the latest. He’s currently releasing new poetry on a monthly basis through his new site Dancing With Scars (www.dancingwithscars.com). Since late 2008 Christopher K.P. Brown has been running his own poetry company, 2 Pens & Lint LLC, which prints and promotes chapbooks for poets. K.P. is the co-founder of Poetry247.com and A+ Poetry, an online spoken word magazine. Four Years Later (POETRY: a hip hop album)
I graduated from college in May of 2007. I spent that entire summer finishing up a project I was working on at the time. I’d never put so much work into a single poetry project (it took me two years to complete). The result was something I’m still extremely proud of four years later. September 2007 marks four years since the release of my last full cd, POETRY: a hip hop album. Here are a few tracks from the album. Enjoy. Peace.
P.S. The album ended up being a combination of two projects I was working on. The first project was titled Mahagony: A Tribute to Black Women. It was going to be a full album of poetry dedicated to Black women, from different perspectives. The second project I was working on dealt directly with Black male identity (Black men in America in 2011 and what that means when you’re living in the lower class or middle class). The final result was POETRY: a hip hop album. The first half consists of poems on Black male identity. The second half consists of poems dedicated to Black women.
Mahagony - This was the first poem written from the project. I remember writing this at my apartment on a saturday back in November 2005.
Looking Up – Writing wise, my favorite poem on the project. It was the first time I wrote in a format specifically set for recording. Still in my top three for this project. The third verse goes into the decision I made to really keep pursuing poetry after college. At some point during the writing of this cd I begin to feel like I’d never written poetry before. By that I mean I begin to understand how much more I had to accomplish and could accomplish when it came to spoken word.
Native Son – The most important poem from the album. Especially when you discuss Black male identity or Black identity in general. In the words of Malcolm, you can’t hate the roots of the tree without hating the tree.
(WE)alth – Wealth starts with WE. – I was glad to have my brothers on this track. All of these guys played certain roles in the album. They all played small parts throughout the album and they were there throughout the recording process as well. I really like the different perspectives on college when you really listen to the verses. S/O to Chauncey, Okenna, b.ware, and NoTiQ

Dancing With Scars Volume. 1 (September 2011)
I really miss writing poetry on a regular basis. Therefore I’ve decided to start something called the Five For Five Series. It’s a pretty simple concept. I’ll release five new poems each month and I’ll sell each compilation for $5. The first one will be released today. You can purchase it as a hard copy, as a download, OR you can subscribe to the series for a year for only $25. Honestly, I suggest the year long subscription. (Details are on the right column of the Dancing With Scars homepage.) Check that out. Check out the new video for I Still Love H.E.R. below and I hope you enjoy the new project, Dancing With Scars: Volume 1. The links to purchase are directly under the album art. Peace.
P.S. Welcome to the new blog! Let me know what you think of the place.
