Back In Atlanta (Hard Work)

Today’s my first full day in Atlanta. Flight touched down around 1PM. I had jetlag and honestly the first thought in my head was “if I have jetlag after only two hours, how did our ancestors feel after that journey from Africa?” Yeah, that’s how I think. Quite often I try to really put myself in the place of my ancestors. This is because excellence (or greatness) is kinda depending on what time period you live in. This is because what’s hard or what’s considered work changes from time period to time period. For instance, in 2011 if you work 12 hours straight people tell you to go get some sleep or take a break to do something else. But then I think about Michelangelo just working constantly, i’m sure more than 12 hours. In America in 2011 we have it pretty easy. Even the regular 8 hour work day, you get a lunch right in the middle. Most people get a break or two at some point in the day as well. So most of us are only working a max of four hours at a time. We only work 1/3 of the day for the most part and we have 2/3 of the day to ourselves. Traditionally I think those numbers were switched around. I’m almost positive that my grandfather spent 2/3 of his day working and a max of 1/3 eating and sleeping or whatever. Lately, I’ve been trying to get closer to that working 2/3 of the day. I don’t mind working. Hard work is in my genes. Lately people keep telling me to get some sleep or get some rest but honestly, I’m good. Even if I were the hardest worker my friends had it still wouldn’t match up to the work of the people who came before us. I have to use my grandmother for example. She turned 90 years old this year. I can’t remember a day where she didn’t wake up and get to some type of work whether it was in her home, the church, or in her community. And she’s 90 years old. If hard work is what brings longevity then I’ll probably need to start working even harder. What’s the main point? Go out there and work hard. It has its benefits. Most importantly, don’t let today’s culture stop you from working as hard as you know you should be working.

Christopher K.P. Brown Upcoming Performance Dates

Around this time last year, while doing a feature performance in Atlanta I told the crowd that that would be the last time I’d be performing for about a year. I told them how I was going to spend the next year working on idea I had in mind. The idea was Poetry247.com.

I actually did stop performing and I actually did put my efforts toward that idea. The response has been great so far as Poetry247 is concerned. It’s been time w…ell spent so far. However, I’m a poet at the end of the day and right now I really miss the stage.

Therefore, I’ve set up about 12 features over the next two months (hoping to add more). I hope you can make it out. Would be great to see some familiar faces AND some new ones as well. The schedule is below. Will see you soon. Peace.
